1926 – 2013
WINTHROP — Fred Ernest Adams Jr., 87, of Winthrop, a former resident of Livermore Falls, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Aug. 22, in the company of his family.
He was born Jan. 16, 1926, and adopted by Fred and Annie Adams of Livermore Falls. He was educated in the schools of Livermore Falls and at age 17 joined the Merchant Marines. Following service in the Merchant Marines, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines.
Fred worked for Albany Felt, the Wilton Woolen Company, International Paper and James River, retiring from the Otis paper mill in 1988 after 34 years of service.
He was a devoted, loving husband who enjoyed hunting, fishing, hockey, automobile racing, cutting firewood and spending time with family and friends. An avid dog lover, Fred could be counted on by his circle of canine companions to have a pocket full of treats at all times. His springer spaniel, Bentley, who never left his side, is wondering what happened to his best friend.
Fred enjoyed the support of a loving and dedicated group of family and friends who added enormously to his life, especially after the devastating loss of Eleanor, his wife of 57 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Jan Jeckel of Kattskill Bay, N.Y.; his granddaughter, Jani Lesko and her husband, David Moes, of Chicago, Ill.; his grandson, Dirk Lesko and his wife, Carla (Souther), of Winthrop; and his precious great-grandchildren, Dana Lesko and Camden Lesko of Winthrop. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Lois Seamon, Brenda Endicott, Miriam Ewing and Althea Hoisington and husband, Richard; brother-in-law, Leon Seamon and wife, Dawn; nephews, Jeffrey Adams and wife, Vicki, and Ronald Adams; sister, Jane Wilbanks; niece, Margo Holland and husband, Jeffrey; son-in-law, Newland Lesko; and friends, Norman and Lynn Quirrion, Kevin and Ellen Franchetti, Elaine Haley, Beryl-Ann Johnson, Donna Cheney and Carl Gordon, who were all especially cherished for their visits, calls, gifts of home, baked goods and most of all, for their love, kindness and friendship.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eleanor.
