LEWISTON —  College for ME-Androscoggin has announced the latest recipients of its First Class Scholarships. The awards provide scholarships to adult students, age 25 or older, who are living or working in Androscoggin County.

The awards cover the tuition costs of the first college class they have ever taken or the first college class taken after many years.

Scholarship recipients automatically become members of the First Class Cohort Program. The group will meet one-on-one with advisers on a regular basis as well as with other past First Class Scholarship recipients for group mentoring.

Sessions focus on technology, study skills, financial aid, student academic support services and course selection and registration. Cohort advising will help these adults transition into further post-secondary study.

Group members who complete the program and succeed academically in their class will be celebrated at College for ME-Androscoggin’s annual awards luncheon.

Recipients were David Bruce, Auburn; Travis Gauthier, Lewiston; Bettina Grivois, Lewiston; Robert Morin, Lewiston; and Denise Simpson, Auburn.

All will attend college locally. Their ages range from 27 to 50; some are taking their first class, and others are returning to college after a gap of many years.

Last year was the first complete year for the Scholarship and Cohort Program.

College for ME-Androscoggin is a local nonprofit working on college aspiration, access and attainment initiatives in Androscoggin County.
