AUGUSTA (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty to breaking into an elderly couple’s Oakland home while they were sleeping and stealing Christmas gifts intended for family has been ordered to pay for a security system for his victims.
Brandon Rimes of Fairfield was sentenced Monday in Kennebec County Superior Court to serve eight months of a 3-year jail sentence, and ordered to pay $1,000 to replace the stolen gifts and $600 for an alarm system.
Prosecutors said the 26-year-old Rimes and another man, who has already been sentenced, broke into the home of 88-year-old Charlotte Lovejoy and her husband, 89-year-old Del Lovejoy, last Dec. 6.
Charlotte Lovejoy told the Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/16NiZ42 ) the burglary stole her peace of mind.
Rimes’ lawyer said his client is remorseful and has apologized to the Lovejoys.
