AUBURN — A program on “Predators and Prey, a Healthy Maine Landscape, and Us” will be given at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, Auburn Public Library, Androscoggin Community Room.

Geri Vistein, a conservation biologist and expert on coyotes, will give a presentation on coyotes in Maine. This free program is open to all.

Despite the fact that scientists have learned so much more about carnivores and their immense value in the workings of the planet, human attitudes, behavior and laws in our society toward carnivores have not changed very much in the past 500 years. Vistein will discuss the powerful relationship between predator and prey and discuss why this relationship is of vital importance to the health and biodiversity of Maine landscapes and the planet as a whole.

Vistein is an experienced presenter who has worked to educate communities throughout Maine. She holds a Master of Education as well as an undergraduate degree in wildlife biology from the University of Montana, and a master’s in natural resources from the University of Vermont. As a scientist her work focuses on carnivores and our relationship to them. She has been involved in major research projects both here in Maine and in Montana.
