HAMPDEN — The driver of a dump truck has been freed from the wreckage after a crash involving a Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway train on Western Avenue near Mayo Road.

LifeFlight arrived at the crash scene around 11 a.m., along with several other area emergency responders. The helicopter has taken off and will bring the driver to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Crews freed the driver, who had been trapped after the crash, shortly after noon. Responders brought out an extrication device around 11:15 a.m., according to a reporter on the scene.

The crossing signals are functioning, flashing as crews continue to work at the scene. Police are interviewing people at the scene.

The driver reportedly was speaking with crews as they worked to free him or her.

Route 202 is still closed, as crews have to reconstruct the accident, clear the wreckage and clean up fuel that has spilled on and near the road.
