On the menu that day will be chicken alfredo over pasta, with a bread roll, carrots, and pudding for dessert. Music will be provided by Darlin’ Corey, a duo featuring Lewiston fiddler Erica Brown and Matt Shipman of Portland on guitar, who together will perform traditional French-Canadian and Acadian songs.
Attendees over the past couple of months have been informed in person of the coming change, but Franco Center Director Louis Morin wants to make sure those who may have been away at camp or on vacation for the summer months are also aware of it.
“People are creatures of habit and when something that has been as consistent as La Rencontre has been, falling on the first Friday for many years, you can’t repeat yourself enough times in getting the word out,” Morin said.
The reason for the change he added is that with events falling on nearly every Friday night of the Franco Center performance season from mid-September through May, his event staff was working 14-hour days on those Fridays when La Rencontre took place.
Admission is $7 and all are welcome, although reservations are required by 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9. If the event is sold out people can still leave their phone numbers and be put on a list for a spot in the event of cancellations, which do occur.
Reservations will need to be made especially early in October, when long-time Franco Center favorite Louis Philippe will perform and the meal will include a traditional French-Canadian ragout.
