MEXICO — The Mexico High School Class of 1953 held its 60th reunion on Aug. 1 at the Mexico Chicken Coop.
Bob Brown said grace and remembered the 33 classmates, one superintendent, one principal and eight teachers who were deceased.
A delicious buffet of crabmeat, stuffed haddock, baked ham and tenderloin steak tips plus salads, rolls, coffee, tea and dessert were served.
A surprise visit by classmate Jeannette Campbell Dunphy from Portsmouth, N.H. made the 60th reunion special, along with Lovina Irish Bryant. Both classmates had not been at a reunion for more than 35 years. Lovina cheered her classmates and guests with a few jokes.
Gary Philbrick, chairman of the reunion, got the agenda back on course with photos, socializing, then a fond farewell to all. June Burgess Weeks was on the committee and took care of all the errands and supplies necessary for the reunion.
Calvin Lyons greeted classmates, spouses and guests with name tags, new addresses of classmates plus a list of deceased members.
Bob Brown travelled the furthest from Jacksonville, Fla., with Jeannette Dunphy from Portsmouth, N.H.
Catherine Ross, hostess for the Mexico Chicken Coop, plus delightful waitresses and a great kitchen crew, made the memories come alive because 60 years ago, the MHS Class of 1953 would go down to “The Coop” after school. Members also haven’t forgotten the Mexico Theatre where classmates went to the movies then back at “The Coop.” What fond memories. They were the “Elvis years.”
Gloria Sobut Drummond and Tom Drummond provided the class photo.
