AUBURN — A Turner man is in stable condition after his motorcycle struck the back of a car stopped at a traffic light on Center Street on Tuesday afternoon.

Auburn police Sgt. Laurie Woodhead said Robert Gauthier, 73, was driving south at 12:37 p.m. and was unable to stop his 1987 Harley-Davidson, possibly due to mechanical failure. The motorcycle struck the back of a vehicle driven by Elizabeth Parking, 21, of Turner.

Gauthier, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported by United Ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with non-life-threatening injuries.

Woodhead said Tuesday night that the crash is still under investigation.
