AUBURN — Funeral services honoring the life of Donald J. Sands were held on Thursday, Sept. 5, at Dillingham & Son Memorial Chapel. The Rev. David Clark officiated the service and recited committal prayers at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

During the service, Kathy Haley played the organ and keyboard, and played “The Old Rugged Cross,” which Megan, Emily and Hannah sang. Kathy also sang and played “I Bowed Down on my Knees and Cried ‘Holy’.” Words of remembrance were expressed by Donald’s nephew, the Rev. George Wardwell. The poem, “I Am Free,” was read by grandnephew John Wardwell and the poem, “His Journey’s Just Begun,” was read by grandson Scott E. Dillingham II.

Following the committal services, military honors from the United States Army played “Taps” and presented our country’s flag to Donald’s daughter, Catherine S. Delaney. The pallbearers were Scott Dillingham II, Kristen Dillingham, Chad Dow and James, John and Stephen Wardwell. A reception of fellowship was held at the Court Street Baptist Church following the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Arrangements by Dillingham & Son Memorial Chapel in Auburn.
