“There are plenty of good reasons,” said Samuel Sylvester of Lisbon Falls, “why the State should build the trunk line (highway) from Lewiston to Brunswick for us. We have a large amount of water power to be developed. We are one of the largest towns of the state. There is as beautiful scenery up and down the Androscoggin as any where in the State and we pay a big tax to the State. The state has got the money and is going to build trunk lines and if we get after it, strong enough and in the right way, we can have it.” It was at the special meeting of the Lisbon Board of Trade called at the request of the Chamber of Commerce of Lewiston to take action in this matter of building a trunk line road from Brunswick to Lewiston. Said Fred P. Hall: “If a man with an auto wishes to get to Lewiston from Brunswick, do they expect him to go down the trunk line to Portland and then to Lewiston?” There was some talk as to the better location from Lisbon Falls village to Lisbon, there being three routes.
