RUMFORD — A municipal budget hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, followed by a budget vote Tuesday, Oct. 8. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the American Legion Hall for residents to decide on eight budget proposals.
The Board of Selectmen set the dates and times at its meeting Thursday night.
The Finance Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, to decide on its budget recommendations.
In other business Thursday, the board unanimously voted to renew the town’s mutual aid policy for law enforcement assistance with Mexico, Dixfield and the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.
Police Chief Stacy Carter said Friday morning that there were no changes to the mutual aid policy and that the renewal was simply a way to “get current signatures from the Board of Selectmen.
“It’s been a few years since we’ve looked at the policy and had it re-signed,” Carter said. “Some of the signatures on the policy were from board members who are no longer selectmen. We try to keep it up to date and make sure everything is OK in the policy.”
The board also heard a request from fire Chief Robert Chase about the possibility of repairing the Fire Department’s thermal imaging camera.
“We talked with the chief and he came to the conclusion that we should table discussion on the matter,” Puiia said. “He explained to us that the camera is an older model and that the price of repairing it may exceed the price of purchasing a new camera.”
Chase said his department is borrowing a thermal imaging camera from Andover and will consider using a demo model of a new camera until a decision is made on whether to repair the department camera or purchase a new one.
