BANGOR (AP) — The trial of a man charged with fatally stabbing another man during an altercation in Bangor has started.
Jason Trickett’s manslaughter trial got underway on Monday at the Penobscot Judicial Center with opening statements. It is expected to continue Tuesday.
Prosecutors said Trickett stabbed 38-year-old Andy Smith with a pocket knife in May 2012 during a day of drinking and drug use.
But Trickett’s attorney called the stabbing a case of self-defense. The attorney said Trickett came to the defense of two women with whom Smith was arguing
The case is being tried before a judge with no jury.
If convicted, Trickett faces up to 30 years in prison.
