A marriage certificate recently was found on Harris Hill in Poland on the cross road leading to the Falls. It had evidently lain in the rain and wet for a long time for hardly any writing remains legible. Only the day of the month, “twentieth,” one or two letters in month, one of which was a “u” and the first part of the year “190.” Two letters of the girl’s name are faintly visible. The name of the place where the ceremony was performed has entirely disappeared. There’s just a suspicion of the minister’s or justice’s name and that of the witness.

Purchase by Day’s Inc. jewelry concern with 20 stores in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, of the Ehrenfried Block at 100 Lisbon St. from the Ehrenfried heirs was announced last night by Sidney Davidson of Portland, treasurer and chairman of the board of the company. Day’s has been located in Lewiston since 1935 when Davidson opened the store at 84 Lisbon St. The company has been in business since 1914, when it opened its first store in Portland. Davidson said the new larger store will be designated as a Class A outlet. Because of the added space, about double the size of the present store, it will be able to display additional lines. He said this would include white goods, larger appliances, stereo machines, television, sporting goods and luggage. The new store has a 50-foot space with no posts.
