FARMINGTON — The Farmington Recreation Department is now taking registrations for the middle school tennis program.

This fall tennis program is open to any Farmington area students in grades seven and eight. The program is limited to the first eight to register. Registrations will be accepted until 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20.

Participants will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Hippach Field tennis courts, beginning Monday, Sept. 21, and continuing until Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Players will learn and practice basic strokes, as well as laerning the rules and scoring associated with the game. Through a variety of fundamental drills, students will be taught the proper method for hitting forehand, backhand and serving.

The Recreation Department will provide the tennis balls, and participants must supply their own rackets and water bottles.

During any rainy days, lessons will be moved to the Community Center for indoor badminton or pickleball.

This year’s program director will be Alyssa White, who is a senior at Mt. Blue High School. She has played on the high school’s varsity tennis team since her sophomore year.

She will return to the Mt. Blue girls’ varsity team as the captain this coming spring and is excited to share what she has learned.

The registration fee for this program is $25, paid by check, which will be asked of all players. There is an additional $5 non-resident fee charged to participants who do not reside in the town of Farmington, which includes the Farmington, West Farmington, Farmington Falls or Fairbanks communities, or whose parents do not pay property taxes to the Town of Farmington.
