WILTON — Electrical wiring in the kitchen caused an early morning fire Tuesday in a home on Main Street.
An investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s office was called to the scene at 1408 Main St. and determined the cause, Wilton fire Chief Sonny Dunham said Wednesday. The wiring was above a microwave.
Homeowner Dan Waterman was woken by a smoke alarm and his dog at about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, he said.
Wilton police Officer Ryan Richardson arrived at the home first and used a fire extinguisher, but the fire was still going when the Fire Department arrived, Dunham said.
Minimal damage was done to the home, mainly to the kitchen cabinets and the microwave, which were damaged by the flames. The cost from the fire will mostly be the kitchen cleanup, Dunham said.
Jay and East Dixfield Fire Departments and Farmington Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene, Dunham said. These were released before the Wilton department left the scene at about 6:30 a.m., he said.
