Several customers were without water Thursday morning when a break in a Jay Village Water District pipe occurred. One customer affected was the Jay Town Office, which closed for the day. Superintendent Mike Wells, standing, said that the break occurred about 5:30 a.m. He didn’t know what the problem was except for it was a pipe break, he said, as the district’s emergency contractor, Kimball Farrington, dug into the ground at the intersection of Smith Avenue and Bucklin Drive. The break affected some customers from the Jay Plaza north to Ameriprise Financial, including McDonald’s, Wells said. Jay Sewer Department representative Alfred Richards, hidden, was on hand to watch the excavation. The water and sewer lines are near each other.
