FARMINGTON — The Farmington Recreation Department is taking registrations for any Farmington area students in grades seven and eight who want to take part in a Fall Mountain Biking program.
The deadline for registering is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20. This program is limited to the first 18 who register.
Participants will meet from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Mt. Blue Middle School in Farmington, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 24, and continuing until Thursday, Oct. 10.
It is geared toward those who want to get outside. Participants must provide their own mountain bike, helmet and water bottle. The basics of bike maintenance, first aid and riding technique will be reviewed before riding area trails with program director Greg Veayo.
Veayo has run the department’s Summer Mountain Biking program for the past 16 seasons. He is an eighth-grade teacher at Mt. Blue Middle School in Farmington and has a passion for riding. He has become familiar with all of the local trails and terrain and enjoys introducing others to the sport.
The standard registration fee is $25 and will be asked of all players. This should be paid by check to Greg Veayo.
There is a $5 nonresident fee charged to participants who do not reside in the town of Farmington, West Farmington, Farmington Falls or Fairbanks or whose parents do not pay property taxes to Farmington.
