WINTHROP — Aspired Amputees Support Group has begun in Central Maine with the purpose of developing a network of amputees or individuals with physical limitations and their families.
Meetings will be held at 2 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Winthrop Town Office conference room.
The group’s main goal is to provide support and build friendships with amputees and those with physical limitations in the surrounding communities. The purpose of the group is to share experiences so that we may succeed at living a normal, independent, fruitful life.
Individuals who will attend meetings are interested in sharing their own life stories, and also interested in hearing the life stories of others who attend. The goal of the group is to help people cope with life as an amputee or otherwise physically challenged individual. Group facilitators will try to promote the physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being of those with amputation or physical limitations.
Meetings will be a safe outlet for individuals to share similar challenges and experiences. Many support group members have been “there” and have figured out a way to deal with the challenges of limb loss, etc. and are willing to share knowledge, tips and ideas. Trials and successes are shared so all may benefit.
ASPIRED stands for Amputee Support Peer Interaction Reclaiming Empowerment & Dignity.
