BETHEL — An update on the status of the roadside directional sign ordinance and the upcoming Winterfest will be among the topics discussed at the Board of Selectmen meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Town Office.

Town Manager Jim Doar said he plans to update selectmen on the official status of the town’s roadside directional sign ordinance, especially since the deadline for construction to begin on the new roadside directional signs is fast approaching.

Doar added that he was told by the Maine Department of Transportation in March that the ordinance would be approved. In July, after sending the ordinance to MDOT, Doar said he received a letter from MDOT’s Chief Counsel stating that the Department will consider the ordinance “fully operational and administrable when it receives a copy of the Town’s contract with the sign manufacturer and the sign installer.”

“I sent the contracts and followed up, to make sure we all on the same page and was told the Commissioner has it and that we would hear from him by Sept. 11,” Doar said. “We still haven’t heard anything from them.”

Doar said he would be updating the selectman on the situation during the selectman’s meeting.

Selectmen will also hear from Robin Zinchuk, executive director of the Bethel Chamber of Commerce, in regards to the annual Winterfest.

Doar said the board will discuss with Zinchuk what the town of Bethel’s role will be during the festival.

The board will also hold public hearings for the liquor license and entertainment permit renewal for Rooster’s Roadhouse.
