LIVERMORE FALLS — A Missouri man escaped injury Friday night when he lost control of his car on Route 17, causing it to spin around and heavily damage the fence around the Livermore Falls Water District’s treatment plant and Moose Hill Pond.
The pond is the primary source of drinking water for customers in Livermore Falls and some in Jay.
Carl Leiter, 46, of Branson, Mo., was heading east toward Fayette on the road when he lost control of his 1995 Lincoln Continental at about 7:49 p.m., Livermore Falls police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Monday. The car spun 180 degrees, and the rear of the car went into a ditch, hitting the fence and nearly going through it, he said.
Doug Burdo, superintendent of the Livermore Falls Water District, said five fence posts were knocked down, as well as about 70 feet of fence.
He will be getting an estimate to repair the damage.
Leiter was not hurt, Steward said.
