SKOWHEGAN (AP) — Fairfield’s former police chief, who resigned abruptly in March after 27 years in law enforcement, has pleaded guilty to drunken driving.

Ex-Chief John Emery was fined $500, assessed $140 in court fees and ordered to surrender his driver’s license for 90 days after pleading guilty Wednesday to operating under the influence.

The 48-year-old Emery previously had pleaded not guilty to the charge brought last Christmas Eve, following a disturbance at his home that led to a large law enforcement response.

Emery’s lawyer told the Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/16pB9q8 ) that while there were questions about blood tests taken at the hospital, his client wanted to put the case behind him.

Emery took a leave of absence after the Dec. 24 incident and resigned in March for personal reasons.
