ALFRED (AP) — A Maine man who had several guns and newspaper clippings about a mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater in his vehicle when he was pulled over has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
The plea was entered by an attorney for 50-year-old Timothy Courtois, of Biddeford, at a competency hearing Thursday.
A judge accepted the plea when the prosecution did not object.
Courtois was stopped in July 2012 for driving 112 miles per hour. Police found several guns in his vehicle. He told police he was driving to New Hampshire to shoot his former employer. He also said he had taken a loaded gun to a screening of “The Dark Knight Rises” at a Saco theater the night after a man killed 12 people at a Colorado showing of the same movie.
