LEWISTON — State Sen. Emily Cain, D-Orono, picked up the support of several prominent Androscoggin County Democrats on Monday in her bid for the U.S. House.

Cain is one of several Democratic candidates for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District. The seat is being vacated by U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, D-Maine, who is running for the governor’s office.

News of the endorsements came from Dan Cashman, a public relations expert who was Michaud’s re-election communication director in 2012.

“It’s the way Emily works that makes her my choice for Congress,” state Rep. Peggy Rotundo, D-Lewiston, said in a prepared statement. “She knows how to listen, and bring people together to find common ground, while holding strong to democratic values. Washington needs more of that kind of leadership. I admire Emily as a colleague and friend, and I am proud to support her for Maine’s second congressional district.”

Rotundo is the House chair of the Legislature’s budget-writing Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee, on which Cain serves as a senate member.

“She is forceful and effective, and always a pleasure to work with,” state Rep. Mike Carey, D-Lewiston said. “In Emily, Lewiston and the 2nd District will have someone who will fight for them every day, but do it in a way that breaks through the gridlock in Washington and solves America’s biggest problems.”

Cain also picked up support from state Rep. Michel Lajoie, D-Lewiston and former state lawmaker and retired college professor Richard Wagner, also of Lewiston.

Other Androscoggin County Democrats endorsing Cain include: state Sen. Margaret Craven, D-Lewiston; former Democratic candidate Colleen Quint of Minot and Dick and Diane Grandmaison of Lewiston.
