GORHAM — The University of Southern Maine School of Music will present the USM Wind Ensemble at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Corthell Concert Hall, Gorham campus.
The USM Wind Ensemble, conducted by Peter Martin, USM professor of Music, is an acclaimed collection of students who have established a tradition of performing both traditional and experimental combinations. In this performance, they will exemplify the latter.
In this performance the ensemble will feature both traditional and contemporary works including: an antiphonal piece by Italian composer Andrea Gabrieli; a brass and percussion piece by Karel Husa, Pulitzer prize-winning composer; Academy award-winning composer Malcolm Arnold’s “Trevelyan Suite”; modern works by American composer John Mackey; and a high-energy piece by John Philip Sousa, among others.
