GRAY — The Student Council, National Honor Society, Community Service Club and Civil Rights Club at Gray New Gloucester High School invited the Rachel’s Challenge Organization to speak at the school on Thursday, Sept. 26.

An assembly for the entire school will be held in the morning. Later that that morning, 100 students will attend a special 90-minute training session on Rachel Joy Scott’s life affirming “Code of ethics” that she wrote weeks before she was killed at Columbine High School.

Rachel’s Challenge is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonreligious organization created by Rachel’s father, Darrell Scott.

A barbecue will be held at 5 p.m. and at 6:30 a community event for parents, all of the teachers in the district and bus drivers.

Rachel’s Challenge exists to equip and inspire individuals to replace acts of violence, bullying and negativity with acts of respect, kindness and compassion. Rachel’s Challenge is based on the life and writings of Rachel Joy Scott, who was the first victim of the Columbine school shootings in 1999.
