BETHEL —  Randi Duguay registered a hat trick Wednesday to propel Spruce Mountain to a 5-1 victory over Telstar in MVC field hockey action.

The Phoenix (7-0-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first frame. Kaylee Leclerc and LaDesta Tracy also tallied to complete the scoring.

Becca Howard scored for the Rebels (4-4) in this mid-season tilt. Kasey Richards made nine saves for Spruce Mountain, while Hailey Barter turned back 17 shots between the posts for Telstar.

St. Dom’s 4, Carrabec 0
AUBURN — Faith Grady and Marley Byrne each scored a goal and picked up an assist as St. Dom’s dismissed Carrabec in a 4-0 victory in girls’ soccer Wednesday.

Saints’ goalie Kelly Pomerleau (13 saves) made a first-half save that changed the tempo of the game. St. Dom’s led 1-0 at the half.

Emily Caron and Tia Rotolico each scored for the Saints (6-1). Carrabec’s Mercedes Welch did a fine job in net for the Cobras (1-4-1), making 17 saves, and Makayla Leeman also turned in a fine performance.

Madison 2, Mountain Valley 1

RUMFORD —  Madeline Wood found the net with 13:41 left in regulation to give Madison a 2-1 victory over Mountain Valley in a mid-season MVC matchup Wednesday.

Kierstin Wood gave the Bulldogs (5-0-1) a 1-0 advantage in the first frame. Katie Puiia tied the contest at 1-1 early in the second half with an assist from Kaitlyn Virgin.

Sevanah Kandiko made 11 saves for Madison, while Karen Flaherty turned aside nine shots for the Falcons (1-6).

Hall-Dale 3, Oak Hill 1

WALES — Oak Hill scored the tying goal with 4:22 left in regulation only to watch Hall-Dale score twice in the final minutes for a 3-1 win in girls’ soccer Wednesday.

The Raiders (3-3-1) got a goal from Jamie Prue to tie the game late in regulation. The Bulldogs (5-1) answered back with Eva Shephard’s second goal of the game. Then Maura Stottler finished off the win with another goal. Stottler had a goal and two assists.

Raider goalie Kelsey Collins had 18 saves as Hall-Dale outshot the Raiders 24-7.

Spruce Mountain 3, Dirigo 0

DIXFIELD —  Hayley Doyen led a trio of players to register goals Wednesday as Spruce Mountain sailed past Dirigo 3-0 in more mid-season MVC soccer action.

Mikala Holt and Kailee Newcomb also tallied unassisted goals for the Phoenix to complete the scoring.

Emily Keene made 13 saves during the second half to preserve the shutout, while Amber Delaney turned aside eight shots in the first frame. Mariah LaFleur made made 15 saves for Dirigo.

College Field Hockey

Bowdoin 8, Bates 0

LEWISTON —   Bowdoin jumped out to a 3-0 lead through eight minutes and extended it to 7-0 through 25 minutes en route to an 8-0 win over Bates in women’s field hockey action Wednesday.

The Polar Bears (5-1) won their third straight game, while the Bobcats (1-5) dropped its fifth in a row.

Emily Simonton scored 82 seconds into the game on the game’s first shot, and finished with a game-high three goals. Rachel Kennedy added two goals and one assist. Katie Riley and Olivia King tallied three and two assists apiece, while Liz Znamierowski collected one goal and one assist.

Hannah Gartner made Bowdoin’s only save in a combined shutout with teammates Liz Rill and Clara Belitz, who split the final 13:41 of the contest.

Mens’ Soccer

St. Joseph’s 3, UMF 0

STANDISH –  Senior Kyle Shangraw scored a pair of penalty-kick goals in the first half as Saint Joseph’s hustled to defeat the University of Maine at Farmington 3-0 in non-conference men’s soccer action Wednesday.

The Monks (6-2-1) earned their sixth-consecutive victory with this shutout.

Shangraw netted his first PK marker just 1:44 after the opening whistle, when the senior midfielder blasted a kick through the hands of Maine-Farmington (1-3-1) senior keeper Derek Reilly, who guessed correctly and dove to his left to no avail.

The second PK tally of the match occurred in the 34th minute when freshman midfielder Jack Murray was fouled in the box. Called on to take the kick again, Shangraw proceeded to double the Monks’ margin with an untouched ball into the right corner of the net.
