RANGELEY — The Rangeley Logging Museum’s Apple Harvest Festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Church of the Good Shepherd on Main Street.
All under one roof will be a logging display, Bakewell Cream biscuits, beef stew, vegetarian stew, apple crisp, German-themed breakfast brunch, children’s pumpkin theme activity center, apple pressing, baked goods and fudge, produce farm booths, artisans, raffle, and more.
A first-ever, German-themed breakfast brunch prepared and donated by No View Farm & Bakery, from Mexico, will be served from 9 to 11 a.m. German apple coffee cakes and German breakfast cookies, along with donated coffee from Maine’s own Carrabassett Coffee, will be available to eat-in or take-out. All proceeds will benefit the Rangeley Logging Museum.
Starting at 11 a.m., the Logging Museum’s beef stew and (new this year) vegetarian stew luncheon will begin serving. The luncheon includes a freshly-baked Bakewell Cream biscuit, donated by New England Cupboard, and their signature apple crisp which will be made with apples donated by Terry’s Orchard. Fresh produce for both stews have been donated by Porter Hill Farm and Blueberry Hill Farm. Red, brown or tofu hot dogs are also available with rolls donated by the Rangeley IGA.
Be sure to stop by the farm produce booths of Blueberry Hill Farm and Porter Hill Farm to purchase fresh produce and a pumpkin for little ones to decorate at the Children’s Pumpkin Activity Center. While the kids are busy, the adults can peruse the festival’s artisan booths and the museum’s display booth, featuring hometown logger, Jeep Wilcox. Jeep now spends his days creating incredible handmade, wooden decor and frames. Purchase your own copy of the Logging Museum’s “Working the Woods” and Jeep will autograph it.
All prizes at the museum’s raffle booth are donated by local Maine artists and businesses to benefit the museum. Take chances on more than 12 items that will be individually raffled. Prizes include bird houses, local photography, hand-crafted, wooden decor, Saddleback ski passes and quilted wall-hangings. Winners need not be present to win.
The baked goods and food booth will include apple desserts and goodies as well as pumpkin, blueberry and other fruit muffins, breads, cakes, cookies, bars, fudge, brownies and more. Gluten-free and sugar-free foods will also be for sale.
The New England Cupboard’s booth will be selling Bakewell Cream Famous Biscuit Mix, their signature apple crisp mix and Bakewell Cream Cookbook.
Outside will be vendors, produce booths and apple pressing demonstrations by Terry Trask from Terry’s Orchard. Bring clean jugs to have your apples turned into apple cider right before your eyes.
The Apple Harvest Festival coincides with Rangeley’s second annual Oktoberfest. Activities for the weekend begin on Thursday, Oct. 3, and will include horse-drawn hayrides, beer hoisting contests, beer tasting, German specialty foods at many restaurants, live music, children’s activities and more. Oktoberfest weekend will wrap up on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 6, with a concert to benefit Lac Megantic.
This is the last chance to visit the Logging Museum as this will be the final weekend for the 2013 season. As always admission is free.
