SALEM — Haley Fletcher’s goal early in the second half  broke a scoreless tie as Monmouth blanked Mt. Abram, 1-0, in MVC girls’ soccer action on Monday.

Fletcher scored off a cross from Sammy Grandahl to give the Mustangs the lead with 32:30 remaining in the second half. Goalie Mikayla Cameron made it stand up with three saves for the Mustangs (5-1). Allie Lopez stopped 10 shots in net for the Roadrunners (4-4).

Field hockey

Hall-Dale 4, St. Dom’s 1

FARMINGDALE — Nicole Pelletier and Shaney Gilbert each scored a pair of goals as Hall-Dale (5-5) rolled to a 4-1 victory over St. Dom’s (2-8) in a field hockey game Monday afternoon.

Hall-Dale reeled off three goals in the first half and Gilbert also earned an assist. The Saints got on the board in the second half when Emma Samson scored on assists by Brittany Eastman and Callie Greco. The Saints outshot Hall-Dale, 18-11.

Dirigo 4, Telstar 2

BETHEL — Four different Dirigo players scored, just enough to keep Telstar at a safe distance in a see-saw 4-2 win in MVC field hockey action on Monday.

Brooke Holmquist, Brittany LaPointe, Emma Luders and Ellen Wainwright all found the back of the cage for the Cougars, who took a 2-1 lead into intermission. Becca Howard scored with three seconds left in the first half to get the Rebels on the board, while Savanna Patenaude added the second-half goal.

Keeper Amanda Dolloff made seven saves for the Cougars (5-5), while Hali Barter stopped 11 shots for the Rebels (4-6).

Oak Hill 3, Mountain Valley 1

RUMFORD — Erika Hannigan’s two goals proved to be the difference as Oak Hill defeated Mountain Valley, 3-1, in MVC field hockey action on Monday.

Kayla Veilleux scored the other goal for Oak Hill, with Sadie Goulet and Danielle Samson tallying assists. Lexi Duguay scored the lone Mountain Valley goal unassisted. Abigail Fuller made two saves in the cage for the Raiders (6-3-1) while Kassie Thibodeau turned aside eight shots for the Falcons (2-8).

Boys’ soccer

Spruce Mountain. 2, Mountain Valley 1

JAY — Zach Whitney’s goal pushed Spruce Mountain past Mountain Valley in a tight 2-1 MVC boys’ soccer matchup on Monday.

After a scoreless sirst half, Erik Taylor got the Phoenix on the board with an assist from Tristen Begin with 27:45 left to go. Less than four minutes later, the Falcons’ Tucker Phelps answered with an unassisted goal. But Taylor set up Whitney for the game-winner with 14:54 remaining.

Dakota Jacques made nine saves in goal for the Falcons (1-6). Dustin Jones tallied five saves for the Phoenix (6-1-1).

Lisbon 4, Telstar 1

BETHEL — Zach Stevens scored off a throw-in from Tyler Bard to put Lisbon ahead for good en route to a 4-1 win over Telstar in MVC boys’ soccer action on Monday.

Telstar led 1-0 midway through the first half on Nick Conrad’s penalty kick. But Lisbon’s Kyle Whiman answered quickly with the tying goal. The Greyhounds took the lead on Stevens’ marker despite a great first half in goal by the Rebels’ Bronson Dean.

Austin Fournier and Mike Demarest added insurance goals in the second half for Lisbon. Dean finished with 21 saves in net, while Nate Bergeron stopped 13 shots for the Greyhounds.
