LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners of the quarterly club championship at the Lewiston Armory on Sept. 30 were as follows: first, Mary Trafton and Luke Merry; second, Rosemarie Goodwin and Les Buzzell; third, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; fourth, Jan and Vern Arey; first in B, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; second, Ellie and George Wigton.
Winners on Oct. 1 were: first, Jeanine Kivus and Fred Letourneau; second, Paul Sherman and Mike True; third, Les Buzzell and David Lock; fourth, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; fifth, Kathleen Burden and Mary Trafton; first in B, Kathy Burden and Mary Trafton; second, Nancy Farmer and Claire Lyons; first/second tie in C, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr with Sue Kaluzynski and Donna Bartlett.

Barbecue chicken dinner Oct. 12
OTISFIELD — East Otisfield Free Baptist Church will hold its next supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at 231 Rayville Road, off Route 121.
The meal will feature honey barbecue chicken, carrots, salads and dessert. The food will be served family style. All are welcome. Donations appreciated.
West Paris Library used book sale
WEST PARIS — The West Paris Library will hold its Annual Used Book Sale from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Historical Society building across the street from the library.
A wide selection of books will be available for purchase, including many recent best sellers in hard cover and paperback, as well as books for children. In addition, there will be a small array of older collectible books at discounted prices.
On Oct. 19, also at the Historical Society building from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the remaining books will be sold in a Buck-a-Bag Sale. On this day, there will be a chance to win some wonderful raffle prizes.

Farming info; Master Gardener
PARIS — A multi-session course, “So You Think You Want to Farm in Maine,” will delve into the business, legal and budgeting skills needed to operate a successful farm enterprise in Maine. The workshop will be on Tuesday evenings, Oct. 29 through Nov. 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Oxford County Extension office.
Fee for the workshop is $50, scholarships are available. Preregistration is required by Oct. 20. To register call 743-6329 or 1-800 287-1482 (in Maine).
Master Gardener Volunteer Training will begin in January. In 15 3.5-hour sessions participants will discuss the art and science of vegetable gardening. Topics include soils, botany, pest management, tree and small fruit, cold and warm season vegetables and more. Participants are required to return 40 hours of volunteer time in the Maine Harvest for Hunger gardens.
The class will run on Thursday evenings starting Jan. 30 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Extension office.
