A community is a group of people, who have come together, and they work and they live to try and improve the standard of living and quality of life — and I don’t mean money. — William Baldwin
Autumn is upon us and along with the vibrant colors and crisp air comes the opportunity to support the many different events of the River Valley. I encourage you to get out and enjoy YOUR River Valley community.
With October right around the corner, it’s time to mark your calendars. You don’t want to miss any of the wonderful things happening in YOUR community.
The Pumpkinfest on Saturday, Oct. 12, is sure to have something for everyone., kicking it off with the Downtown Dash 5K, hosted by YOUR Chamber and the River Valley Rotary. Pre-register early at www.active.com and get a tech T-shirt.
After you’ve gotten your exercise in for the day be sure to get over to the Hotel Rumford to show your support for the Greater Rumford Community Center. GRCC is working hard to raise funds to keep their doors open and their building warm for the youth of the River Valley.
Here is your chance to support GRCC if you have not already. The Hotel Rumford will be hosting a Strong Man Contest with proceeds to support GRCC. Whether you’re cheering on or challenging a friend, you don’t want to miss it.
Bring your kids or grandkids out for a wagon ride, crafts or scavenger hunt, just to name a few of the events planned for the day. Who knows, you might get a chance to see the Headless Horseman … I heard he may be around.
While you’re on “the island,” do a little shopping and support your community merchants. It’s a great chance to get that Christmas shopping started and shop locally.
Don’t forget to stop on over to The HOPE Association on Lincoln Avenue. They are holding their annual Oktoberfest from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.
They will be serving a hot pancake breakfast and a hearty beef stew for lunch to warm you up. There will be more than 25 crafters selling their wares and an opportunity to purchase YOUR River Valley Chamber of Commerce “Stash for Cash” tickets. For $5 you’ll have the chance to win money every weekday during November. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity.
Whatever you enjoy doing, take the time to enjoy it here, in YOUR community.
This is the River Valley community’s opportunity to come together, to work, to live to try and to make this community’s standard of living and quality of life the best it can be. I urge you to support YOUR COMMUNITY.
Sincerely,
President
River Valley Chamber of Commerce
