Mike Melville at the controls and students who were picked randomly for following citizenship guidelines got to ride up 100 feet in Tower 3 as part of Fire Safety Week at the Farmington school. The students also had a chance to see the school’s mascot, Twinkle, ride up and wave; they cheered each time she sprinkled star dust. Students follow the guidelines of S.T.A.R.S., which stands for “everyone working together to create an environment in which they are Safe, Try their best, Always are respectful, Responsible and Show kindness.” Fire Chief Terry Bell said firefighters have visited schools, a nursing home and a day care center, and still had more to do for fire prevention week. The department is holding an open house from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the fire station.
