I live in Montana and was traveling through Rumford on vacation in early September, when I lost my wallet with a large amount of cash and no identification. I had stopped for lunch at Dave’s Hotdogs at the Information Center parking lot. We chatted, had lunch and moved on. Several hours later I realized I did not have my wallet.
I called the Rumford Police Department and spoke with Sgt. Tracey Higley. I relayed that I was not accusing anyone of anything, but the parking lot was the last place I could recall buying something.
Sgt. Higley said he would go and search the parking lot and then get back to me.
About and hour later he called back, said he had found nothing and that he placed a call to Dave. Dave remembered me and said he had my wallet. He had waited the rest of the day for me to return until it was time for him to close.
Sgt. Higley went to Dave’s house and picked up my wallet.
When I drove back to Rumford the next day I was pleased to meet Sgt. Higley and thank him. Sgt. Higley stated he was just “doing his job,” but he went out of his way to help me. I also wrote Dave a thank-you note for his honesty.
I thought the people of Rumford would enjoy reading a feel good story about two of its own people. Thank you Sgt. Higley and Dave.
