WASHINGTON — The budget deal that ended the federal government shutdown and avoid default on the national debt also created a budget conference committee that now has Maine Sen. Angus King as a member.

The budget conference committee is made up of U.S. Representatives and Senators from both parties and tasked with coming up with a spending plan by Dec. 13. 

King announced Thursday that he is on that committee.

“I look forward to working with my House and Senate colleagues to develop a long-term budget that puts our nation back on a path to fiscal certainty and stability,” King wrote in a news statement.

The committee is led by Sens. Patty Murray, D-Wash., and Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., and Reps. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Chris Van Hollen, D-Md.
