RUMFORD — Napoleon-Ouellette American Legion Post 24 on upper Congress Street will host a Female Veterans Luncheon on Saturday, Nov. 16, to honor all women veterans.
The schedule includes a morning of pampering — manicures, hair, Reiki and massage — from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., legion Commander Tricia Thurston said Thursday morning by email. “Local professionals have generously donated their time for this event,” she said.
Joining the veterans at 1 p.m. for lunch is guest speaker Ann LePage, wife of Gov. Paul LePage.
Thurston said she invited LePage, “because of her passion in supporting veterans.”
Additional speakers will provide information on women’s health care and entitlements.
“Many women do not realize they are veterans,” Thurston said. “They think that they had to serve in combat. All women and men who have served and have an honorable discharge, are veterans.
“I am trying to educate those who are unaware of this in hopes that they are able to take advantage of any benefits they are entitled to,” she said.
A gift will be given to all female veterans who attend, as well as chances for giveaways.
“Come and connect with other women who have served,” Thurston said. “Remember, women are veterans, too.”
For more information and for those planning to attend, please RSVP Tricia Thurston at 357-3289.
