HIRAM (AP) — Maine State Police said a 16-year-old girl has died after losing control of her car on a curve and striking a tree in Hiram.
Police said speed was the cause of the crash that killed Alexia Valente of Hiram at about 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Two other students in the car were taken to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. All three were students are Sacopee Valley High School in Hiram.
Trooper Tom Welch said there is no indication that any of the teens were wearing their seat belts. He said the crash took place on River Road and that Valente lived on that road.
