NEWRY — Selectmen will hold a public information meeting next month on reconstructing 1,200 feet of Sunday River Road.

The project, estimated to cost between $300,000 and $320,000, was proposed earlier this month by Main-Land Development Consultants of Livermore Falls.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Town Hall, Newry Administrator Loretta Powers said Tuesday afternoon.

According to an Oct. 10 Sun Media Wire story by Alison Aloisio, Main-Land owner and President Bob Berry and project manager Rick Dunton met with selectmen earlier this month to discuss options for the stretch of road near the Nordic Knoll subdivision and Letter S swimming hole. People park along this section to swim in Sunday River.

Code Enforcement Officer Dave Bonney sought the proposal for the stretch, saying the road is at the end of its design life and has had drainage problems in recent years.

The project cost could be higher than Berry’s rough estimate.

When selectmen discussed the nine-page written proposal at Tuesday’s board meeting, Selectman Brooks Morton said the price doesn’t include an engineering layout and a construction contractor, according to unofficial meeting minutes kept by Powers.

Other concerns were raised and discussed before the board decided to convene a public information meeting.

In other board news, selectmen learned repairs on the Grange Hall should be completed by month’s end, Powers wrote. Additionally, remaining funds should allow officials to buy an electric range or stove for the kitchen, she said.
