NAPLES — Matt Vigue rushed for four touchdowns and scored five overall Friday night, sparking Spruce Mountain to its fifth consecutive Western Class C football win, 52-13 over Lake Region.

Spruce Mountain (6-1) will host Leavitt (7-0) in a pivotal Campbell Conference battle to close the regular season next week.

Peter Theriault threw two touchdown passes, one to Vigue and another to Brandon Stearns.

Alwayne Uter also returned a kick for a touchdown.

The Phoenix starting defense didn’t allow a point. Lake Region (2-5) scored on a kick return and a fumble return.

Yarmouth 41, Poland 14

POLAND — The final score doesn’t tell the story, but Poland threw a scare into Yarmouth on Friday night before tumbling to a 41-14 Western Class C football defeat.

Poland (1-6) trailed by six points and had the ball near midfield with six minutes to go when it had the ball stripped away.

That and two additional turnovers led to three late touchdowns for Yarmouth (5-2).

Everett Bertrand scored on a kick return for the second straight week and also picked up a fumble and ran it back for a score to lead the Knights.

Winthrop/Monmouth 48, Boothbay 8

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Winthrop/Monmouth stayed unbeaten and likely clinched home field advantage in the Western Class D playoffs with a 48-8 rout of Boothbay at Sherman Field.

The Ramblers (7-0) were playing their first game in two weeks after a forfeit victory over Sacopee Valley.

Zach Glazier, Jake Weeks, Mario Meucci and Brandon Goff all contributed to the scoring for Winthrop/Monmouth.

Maranacook 30, Telstar 0

READFIELD — Chris Robinson rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns Friday night, leading Maranacook to a 30-0 Western Class D football win over Telstar.

Maranacook (4-3) also scored on a fumble recovery in the end zone and a rushing TD by Zach Lacasse.

Chris Chappie rushed for 72 yards to lead the Rebels (1-6), whose playoff hopes took a hit with the loss. Telstar beat Traip 7-0 a week ago and finishes with winless Sacopee Valley.

Windham 29, Oxford Hills 12

WINDHAM — Windham scored the final 15 points to pull away from Oxford Hills in the second half of a 29-12 win in Eastern Class A football Friday night.

The Vikings trailed 7-0 in the first quarter when Ethan Child broke off an 80-yard touchdown run to pull them within 7-6. Windham (4-3) scored again to take an eight-point lead before Davis Turner made it a 14-12 game with a 35-yard touchdown run.

Oxford Hills (1-6) wouldn’t get any closer, however, as the Eagles added touchdowns in the second and third quarter to secure the victory.
