WATERFORD — The local communities are invited to a harvest potluck supper and decorated pumpkin contest at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.
This event, sponsored by the Waterford Congregational Church, is a fundraiser for Heifer International and will be held at the Wilkins Community House next to the Waterford Congregational Church on Plummer Hill in Waterford Flat. Bring a dish to share.
Children and those young at heart are invited to come in costume and parade around the room.
To participate in the pumpkin contest, paint, carve, decorate or dress up a pumpkin and bring it to the supper. The pumpkin contest will have two categories this year, adult and child.
Each pumpkin will have a dish in front of it and everyone is invited after the supper to vote for their favorite pumpkins by putting money in the dishes. The winning pumpkins will be determined by the amount of money in the dish. The two winners will have their pictures in the newspaper holding their pumpkins.
All proceeds will be donated to Heifer International. Last year the Sunday School children chose several small animals and fowl to be purchased with the donations.
Heifer International works in more than 30 countries. The foundation offers a variety of planned charitable instruments that provide individuals all over the world the ability to help themselves. Its long-range mission is to end hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth.
