LEWISTON — Local organizations are teaming up to create a safe and fun event for anyone to share their slam poetry or spoken word pieces. “License to Speak Poetry Slam” is an event that will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Franco Center.
Through a partnership with the #NoBull Project, the event is put on by two local professionals Samuel Chamberlain, director of the #NoBull Project, and Megan Guynes, an AmeriCorps volunteer at Tree Street Youth Center.
“The goal of the event is to give local poets the opportunity to share their slam poetry or spoken word pieces,” Chamberlain said. “Slam poetry is generally a very emotional piece, the topics can literally be anything. One of my favorite pieces is about the Emergency Exit Row of an airplane.”
This event is free and open to the public. “We are urging anyone and everyone to attend the event, and if they want to share a poem — all are welcome to register.” Registration is free. Visit www.LicensetoSpeak.org and fill out the registration form.
