CORTLAND, N.Y. — Katherine Dianne Avery graduated magna cum laude from State University of New York at Cortland on May 18 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice.
While attending SUNY-Cortland, Katie was on the dean’s list every semester. She was placed on the president’s list for the spring 2013 semester. Katie graduated with a 3.58 GPA.
Katie was inducted in the National Criminal Justice Honor Society (Alpha Phi Sigma) in April 2012 as well as the National Political Science Honor Society (Pi Sigma Alpha) in May 2013. She was awarded the following honor cords: blue/white for her EMS dedication, the red/black and white cords as well as gold cords awarded for the national honor societies to wear on graduation day.
A 2009 North Yarmouth Academy graduate, she played for the DIII Cortland Red Dragons hockey team as the team’s goaltender. While attending SUNYCortland, she became a “crew” chief and member at large on the Cortland’s EMS squad.
Katie has been employed at FunTown-SplashTown USA as an EMT-B while home and also was a volunteer for the Sabattus Fire/Rescue Department as a fire fighter and EMT-B during the summer months.
Following in her father’s and older brother’s footsteps, Katie has just been hired as a police officer for the Auburn Police Department. She began attending the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro in August.
She is the daughter of Tom and Diane Avery of Lewiston and the granddaughter of David and Margaret Avery of Auburn and Zita Bolduc of Lewiston.
