Darts, bbq for Roy/Rivard family

AUBURN — A benefit dart shoot and barbecue for the Roy/Rivard family will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, at the New Auburn Social Club, 7 Second St.

A barbecue will be held in the parking lot from 3 to 5 p.m. Cost is $5.

Dart sign-ups run from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Games start at 6. Cost is $10 per player. There will be a 50/50 and raffles.

Robert “Bobby” Roy was an avid dart player who carried his passion for the sport from the Central Maine Dart League to many other leagues around the country. Wherever he was stationed in the U.S. Navy, he would sniff out a dart board and get swooped up by a team to play on.

On April 28, Roy’s life was taken by a hit-and-run drunk driver in Pensacola, Fla.

Funds raised through the tournament will help the Roy/Rivard family with expenses during the legal proceedings.

Events in downtown Monmouth

MONMOUTH — Saturday, Oct. 26, will be a busy day around downtown Monmouth.

The Golden Club Fall Bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Packard Activity Center. The event will include a lobster lunch and a bake sale.

Cumston Public Library will hold a used book sale in the lower level of the library.

LEWISTON — The Holy Cross Knights of Columbus Council 12,652 will have a bean supper from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in the Holy Cross Church Hall, 1080 Lisbon St.

Conservation payments resume

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that USDA has begun distributing Conservation Reserve Program annual rental payments to participants across the country. USDA also will distribute 2013 direct payments and 2012 Average Crop Revenue Election program payments beginning Oct. 24.

Payments originally were scheduled to be issued earlier in the month, but were delayed by several weeks due to the lapse in federal funding.

Presentation, walk on cemeteries

MONMOUTH — Dr. Larry Buggia, trustee of Monmouth Museum, will host a PowerPoint presentation and walk in the cemetery at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Cumston Public Library.

Orders may be taken for Buggia’s updated book on Monmouth’s cemeteries, published by Monmouth Museum.

This program is free and is sponsored by Friends of Cumston Library and Monmouth Museum.

Cary book sale, holiday boutique

WAYNE — The Cary Library first Saturday book sale and holiday boutique will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 2, at  at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road, across the street from the library.

Take a morning break and shop at the ongoing book sale and holiday boutique. The holiday boutique will showcase Paula Tamberlane’s jewelry and Tammy Birtwell’s artisanal soaps.

Coffee, tea and breakfast breads will be for sale.

Proceeds will benefit the Williams House, a property of the Cary Library.

Auburn Art Club to meet Nov. 4

AUBURN — The Auburn Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at the Park Avenue Methodist Church. Maureen Tibbetts is chairman of the committee for this meeting and will be assisted by Evelyn Larrabee and Kathy Cutter.

The program will be “Meet the Washburns.” The story of the famous Washburn brothers and their three sisters will be presented by costumed interpreters from the Washburn Norlands Living History Center in Livermore. Learn how the Washburn brothers changed the face of politics and business during the Civil War era.

A Victorian fashion show will also be presented to show how women of that time dressed.

All members are encouraged to attend.

Preschool spots open at YWCA

LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine currently has openings for preschool children ages 2 1/2 to 5. The YWCA is committed to providing a healthy environment for all children while promoting self-esteem, enthusiasm for learning and respect for oneself and others.

Children are encouraged to express themselves freely through play, music, art and dance. The YWCA believes in gender equality and cultural diversity.
