In their new home in Monmouth, the Bates Mill Store and Maine Heritage Weavers welcomed more than 500 people at an open house and sale this past Columbus Day. Having recently moved the operation from Lewiston, where Bates has been based since 1850, Chairman Alfred Lebel and his team were excited to welcome the local community and Mainers from across the state. Among the visitors were people who worked in the old Bates Mill and younger generations recalling the memories of their parents’ and grandparents’ Bates bedspreads. Visitors were also able to see the looms and meet the people who created the products they were purchasing.
