BUCKFIELD — Students from Oxford Hills Christian Academy in Paris recently built bridges for the Western Maine Land Trust to complete the new Packard Trail.
The bridges help complete the two-mile hiking trail named after the family which settled near the location of the trailhead off the Sodom Road, Lee Dassler of the Land Trust said.
In preparation for the group’s volunteer day, two trust volunteers cut and prepared stringers near the site while a third volunteer transported decking for across South Pond in a canoe. The students and a science teacher carried in tools and the remaining decking materials to the site, approximately one mile from the trailhead.
The finished structures will be used by walkers, runners, skiers and snowshoers.
The trailhead and parking area is 1.2 miles south of Route 117 off the Sodom Road. Call 207-739-2124 for additional information.
