Lucas and Hannah Martin, at left with their mother Audrey, split $12 and earned $6 for the schools that they attend after bringing in 12 pounds of candy that they collected while trick-or-treating on Thursday. Sheline said that she hopes to collect more than last year’s cache of 272 pounds. The candy will be sent to troops overseas through Operation Gratitude, the reason why the Martin family decided to participate. Bryan Martin was deployed overseas as a member of the Air National Guard. “I know it is for a good cause,” Audrey Martin said. Sheline said the buy back is intended to educate parents that candy should be consumed in moderation. Her practice has seen children as young as one come in with cavities. “The No. 1 reason is parental education,” Sheline said. Dental assistant Jessica Hutchinson records the weight of the candy in the background.
