Lisbon football may be bruised, but the Greyhounds certainly aren’t broken.

Two weeks after the team’s heart and soul, Quincy Thompson, was sidelined with a serious arm injury, the Greyhounds served notice Saturday afternoon that they’re plenty strong enough to make a run in the Western Class D playoffs.

No. 3 Lisbon’s defense dominated No. 6 Maranacook, and a retooled backfield did the rest in a convincing 28-0 quarterfinal win at Thompson Field.

Joe Philbrick rushed for a pair of second-quarter touchdowns for Lisbon (7-2), which will make the short trip to No. 2 Oak Hill next Saturday in the semifinals.

Oak Hill knocked off Lisbon in the final game of the regular season a week ago, ending the Greyhounds’ six-game winning streak.

Thompson was out in that game and again Saturday, but the Greyhounds were balanced and persistent in his absence.

Lisbon went up 8-0 in the first quarter when Kyle Bourget hit Tyler Halls for a 23-yard touchdown strike. Jordan Glover rushed for the two-point conversion.

Philbrick found the end zone from 2 and 4 yards out in the second quarter. Jordon Torres’ two-point rush was successful on the first touchdown.

Glover completed the scoring with a 4-yard TD run. He finished with 15 carrises for 95 yards.

Torres topped all rushers with 117 yards on 17 attempts.

The big story of the day, though, may have been Lisbon’s defense. The Greyhounds surrendered 100 yards to the Black Bears’ Chris Robinson in a 24-6 win three weeks ago.

This time, Maranacook (4-5) never got rolling.

“We shut them down on many occasions,” Lisbon defensive coordinator Randy Ridley said. “The defense didn’t allow Maranacook to pass midfield in the second half.”
