PERU — Selectmen announced Monday that the latest tests on the public spring on Greenwoods Road show the water is safe to drink.

A boil-water order issued several months ago has been lifted. The town made changes to the spring to eliminate infiltration of surface water. It will continue to check the spring.

Fire Chief Bob Hussey announced his department has applied for a government grant. At last week’s meeting, Hussey informed the town a new fire engine and fire station will be needed in the near future.

Code Enforcement Officer Jack Plumley recently disapproved of building a garage with living quarters above it on land owned by Don and Bill Paradis. Plumley said the construction did not comply with their building permit. The landowners have appealed the ruling.

Selectmen approved seeking legal counsel before the case is heard by the Appeals Board.

The selectmen will next meet on Tuesday, November 12 rather than on their regular Monday meeting night due to Veterans Day.
