SOUTH PORTLAND — The hills are alive with The Sound of Music, a perennial favorite about a problem named Maria and her talented charges.
The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic about a young postulant sent to the home of an Austrian naval hero to serve as governess to his seven children arrives just in time for the holidays.
Set against the backdrop of pre-World War II Austria, the score includes songs you’ve known and loved for years — “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Do Re Mi” and, of course, “The Sound of Music.”
See it performed as never before with a cast of new and familiar faces under the direction of Joshua Chard at The Portland Players, Nov. 22-Dec. 8, with shows Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
