WINTHROP — St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will continue the “Can Film Festival” at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, with a showing of a 1949 film, adapted from a popular Broadway musical about three sailors on a 24-four shore leave in New York City.
Gabey, played by Gene Kelly, Chip, played by Frank Sinatra, and Ozzie, played by Jules Munshin, soak up the sights and sounds of the big city, and each one finds romance: Gabey with aspiring dancer Ivy Smith (Vera-Ellen), Chip with lady cabbie Hildy Esterhazy (Betty Garrett), and Ozzie with paleontology student Claire Huddesten (Ann Miller).
The “price of admission” is a can (or two or three cans) or boxed food items to help support the Winthrop and area food banks. Popcorn and modest refreshments will be served.
