FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department has issued a warrant for an Augusta area man accused of breaking into a Chesterville residence on Monday while a teenager was home.
Deputies are looking for Stephen Dingus, 31, Detective Ken Charles said Wednesday. The warrant charges burglary, criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools.
Kennebec and Lincoln counties also have warrants for his arrest, Charles said.
A 17-year-old girl was at the house on Vienna Road when a man knocked on the door and then forced his way in, Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said Tuesday. The girl stayed in her room. When the man came to her room and saw her, he fled in car.
The car was a maroon 1998 Chevrolet Lumina with Maine license plate 8081TQ, Charles said. It has damage to part of the driver’s side rear window that has either cardboard or plywood covering it, he said.
If anyone has any information about this case they are asked to call Charles at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department at 778-2680. They can also go to the department’s website, www.franklincounty-me.org, and click on “tips” and follow the instructions. The tips will be anonymous.
Charles is assisting Deputy Nicholas Zecher with the case.
