AUGUSTA (AP) — A lawyer hired to represent a Maine man charged with killing his 24-year-old girlfriend says the public is getting only one side of the story.
Defense lawyer James Lawley called the death of Jillian Jones a tragedy and said that it appears that drug and alcohol played a role in her death in an Augusta apartment. He said “a clearer picture” will emerge once he and co-counsel Roger Katz have conducted their own investigation.
Justin Pillsbury is charged in Jones’ death. Police say he confessed to a roommate, saying that he “screwed up” and that he “blacked out.”
The 38-year-old Pillsbury was treated for what police described as self-inflicted stab wounds. He had bandages on his neck and hand when he appeared in court on Monday.
